Tuesday 21st June
11:25pm It was alternate day off today, so me, Emily, Danielle, gay Pete and around 20 other people on the alternate day staff went to this out-of-town shopping centre – it was brilliant! The camp driver, John, drove us and dropped us off for the day to pick us up later – it was only 45 minutes away. It’s so good how Earl and Bud arrange stuff for us to do on days off, camp is really out in the sticks so we’d never get anywhere otherwise – there are no buses or anything. I still don’t really even know where we are. Just that we’re in New York State somewhere, about four hours from the City.
It was weird to be off camp, and a bit scary. I like having the security of Earl and Bud looking after us and knowing who and where everyone is – I feel safe. On camp all the decisions are made for us – even deciding what to have for lunch today was tough – and our day is timetabled to the last minute. Freedom feels weird.
On the way back we went to Walmart. I decided it would be a great idea to get on one of the motorised carts to take me around the store, but I couldn’t drive it properly so I kept barging into things. Emily could hardly stand up she was laughing so much, tears were actually rolling down her face. She took a well funny picture of me red-faced and pissing myself laughing with the stern shop manager approaching behind.
Walmart manager: “These carts are for our less able customers only. Please get off it now, and put it back where you found it.”
