Once you’ve touched down on the runway in America there’s no turning back! You might feel a bit overwhelmed at everything that’s happening around you. Take note of the following, so at least you know what’s meant to happen…
3 ways to get to camp
1) You fly into New York and stay at your camp agency’s arrivals hotel. Both years that I went with CCUSA this was at Colombia University, although it could be anywhere. The next day they had buses to take us to our camps.
Sometimes you will stay over in the arrivals hotel and then the next morning get dropped off at the main train or bus station, or sometimes an airport. It will then be down to you to sort your transport to your camp, the ticket will usually be refunded by your camp when you arrive. If you need to get an internal flight this will already be sorted for you.

2) You fly directly to the closest airport to your camp and you’re met by a camp representative who will take you straight back to camp.
3) You’ve made your own arrangements to get to camp.
In any circumstance keep your wits about you. All representatives – whether from the agencies or from the camps – will be wearing branded tshirts. Don’t follow anyone without one.
You should be told beforehand which option you’ll be taking. If you’re in any doubt just phone your camp agency to find out.
