Thursday 21st July
9:13am Errmm, alarm went off at 6:45am. There was no chance I was going out in the cold to run around the lake. I saw Emily at breakfast – she didn’t either. We’ll do it next time though, for sure.
I put some music on in clean-up time to try and encourage the campers to get off their arses and sweep the floor. Snow Patrol came on and the two emo kids were well impressed – think I got myself some points there. The kids are generally doing what I say – it’s really nice. Clean up was pretty simple today and I got them all out the bunk pretty early on. The new girls are a good influence on Britney and co. I think they’re seeing me in a different and more fun light too, now that I don’t just have to moan at them all the time.
One of the emo kids keeps complaining she’s got ‘mono’ and needs to stay in bed. I think it’s like tonsillitis, but when one of them gets it it spreads quickly to everyone else, so they say. I think the kids’ new obsession with the word ‘beej’ might have something to do with this. Filthy teenagers.
12:02pm Got a gator ride earlier; it was brilliant. There’s this guy on camp who’s actually 30-something, but you wouldn’t know it –everyone calls him Peter Pan. He’d hotwired the gator and didn’t have a key so he couldn’t actually stop to pick me up. I just had to jump in and out while the car was moving. He was moving pizza supplies and had to keep going back and forth from the storage to the kitchen and get the kitchen staff to throw it in the back. It was the highlight of my day. The lowlight was cleaning the bunk and finding a bloody sanitary towel down the side of one of the girls’ beds. These kids are feral!
12:45pm Went to use the computers in the IT room earlier and Emily was in there. She was looking through her emails and started taking the piss out of me for the one I sent before camp.
Emily: “Ha, I thought you were a right twat with those emails.”
She was pissing herself laughing. I was really polite and nice in the original emails and now that she knows me, I guess she knows I was being ever so slightly fake.
Emily: “And then when you were talking about Neighbours and Home and Away when we landed, Lucy, jeez, I tried to shake you off, but you wouldn’t leave me alone.”
