Make sure you get yourself to the Camp Leaders job fair this year – it’s your chance to get hired on the spot. Camp directors from America fly over to England especially to employ their team for summer 2012. There are two dates for 2012:
- 21 Jan 2012, Manchester, at the The Midland Hotel, Peter Street, MS60 2DS, 10-4pm
- 28 Jan 2012, London, at the Westminster Kingsway College (King’s Cross Centre), 211 Gray’s inn Road, WC1X 8RA, 10-4pm
Should I come to the Camp Leaders Job Fair?
Instead of sitting waiting for your application to go through and to hear back from Camp Leaders, you can meet your future employer and come away with a job all in one day. Your Camp Director will get a better of you, and you’ll understand your future camp better too. There are usually past counselors there you can talk to about what camp is really like, and you’ll usually get a DVD and a pamphlet or two about what to expect.
What do you need to bring?
Your printed out application, a good attitude and a friendly smile.
What to expect…
Each camp that’s attending will have a stand – just a table and notice board decked out in their camp paraphernalia – and will usually have the camp director and one or two current or ex-staff manning the stalls. They sometimes have a TV playing a DVD of camp and will also have brochures to entice you.
What do I do there?
Take a walk around the stalls first to see which camps are there. Chat to the Camp Directors of any camps that you like the sound of and show you’re interested. It’s up to you whether you want to go in for the kill straight away and ask if you can be interviewed, or whether you want to see what others are offering first. Remember they will have no real allegiance to you, so by the time you go back they may have given the job to someone else.
Make sure you get to the Camp Leaders job fair early, once the jobs are gone, they’re gone! Just get chatting to the directors of the camps that interest you and don’t be afraid to go for what feels right.
