The day is almost here. The application was sent of a while ago, you passed the interview with flying colours, you sat around twiddling your thumbs as your camp agency worked like beavers to get you a placement and now, it’s down to you to pack up your stuff and board that plane. Nervous?
If you’re having doubts and even getting cold feet the first step is to read Secret Diary of a Camp Counselor and see what an amazing time I had at camp.
The second step is to read this camp counselor pep talk.
You can do this. Thousands of camp counselors have felt like you are now. Yes, the kids might seem scary at first. Yes, this is probably the first time you’ve spent this long without seeing your family and friends, ever. And yes, you are going to work harder than you ever have in your life. But 95% of you are seriously going to have the best summer of your life too.
Head counselors are there to help if you have a problem and camp directors if you have a more serious one. Your camp agency is only a phone call away too. You’ll also have the help and support of you new best friends – your co counselors – too.
You’ve been accepted onto the programme by trained professionals who saw your CV, enjoyed your video application and are trained to judge you for the job. They judged that you’d be a great summer camp counselor. Then they carefully matched you up to a camp where they know you’ll do well and fit in.
They wouldn’t have accepted you and placed you at your camp if they didn’t think it was right.
You won’t have to do anything that a camp counselor hasn’t done before. You’ll find the strength and skill to deal with any situation and what you learn will really help you in the future.
Arrive with a positive attitude, an open mind and a ridiculous amount of energy, and the rest of it will flow naturally.
YOU will be the best darn camp counselor they’ve ever seen!
